While working as a ballet dancer in the 1980’s, I found that I enjoyed watching and analyzing movement as much as I liked dancing myself. I moved to New York City to further my dance career, but I eventually entered the Gallatin School at New York University to pursue an interest in dance photography. While at NYU, an accidental change in my camera’s shutter speed led to my fascination with motion studies. After college, I worked with renowned dance photographer Lois Greenfield and I began to shoot freelance, covering dance for The New York Times, The Village Voice, New York Magazine, Dance Magazine, and other publications. Dance companies and schools, including The School of American Ballet, an affiliate of The New York City Ballet, hired me for shoots. Many of my images of students and faculty at SAB have been exhibited at Lincoln Center.
I now reside in the village of Dobbs Ferry, a wonderful community on the Hudson River, where I serve on the board of RiverArts, an organization that promotes the Arts locally. My husband Ron introduced me to a life of outdoor activity, so we spend many weekends just outside New Paltz, where I am also drawn to nature as a photographic subject. My son Benjamin possesses energy and creativity that inspire me on a daily basis. I still photograph dance when I can, but I also enjoy shooting portraits, events, kids, nature and just about anything else that passes my field of vision.
